Connect to Your Inner Wisdom - a Guided Meditation - The Transcript:
Hey there, everybody. I'm Kim Burris, a holistic psychotherapist in El Dorado Hills.
Today, I want to offer you a very simple, but effective breathing practice. So find a comfortable seat, and we are going to jump right in.
I want you to just begin by feeling your feet on the ground. Feeling your spine straight… just noticing the surface that you're sitting on, and feeling the top of your head. You can put your hand on your head. Maybe rest your hand on your heart, or rest your hand on your legs.
And just gently sway a little bit, just allowing yourself to settle. You can close your eyes if you feel like that helps you move internal. Or just lower your gaze. The invitation is to move inward and connect to yourself, your own inner wisdom body.
Sometimes we can get distracted with our thoughts and feelings and experiences, but we always have the opportunity to connect.
So from this place, we're going to do what's called a circular breath, that moves us into the circuitry of connection with our self and that which is bigger than us. That which is alive in us and alive in all of us.
So finding your inhale…
I want you to find a comfortable inhale. And let that inhale move right into the exhale...no pausing, no holding… and see if you can start to notice the circuitry that turns on here.
So inhaling for four, three, two, one…exhaling one, two, three, four…inhaling one, two three, four…exhaling one two, three, four… continuing the circle.
Don't get hung up on the count. Your breath maybe a little shorter or a little longer.
I want you to sense that nourishment is moving in through your nose.
The energy that rides on the breath, moving down through your heart into your belly. And I want you to feel it moving out through your core as you exhale.
Letting this be a practice. There's no perfect.
There's no good or bad. It's just the practice of finding the circuitry of your breath. Letting your inhale ride right into the exhale. Circle back right into the inhale.
Just be aware of the subtlety. Of the information you might be receiving right now. You might notice it feels a little jagged, or hard to transition from the exhale to the inhale, or the opposite, exhale to the ending.
Just noticing there's no right or wrong here. Feeling yourself inhaling… exhaling. Inhaling…and exhaling.
Continuing to circle and cycle through your breath. When your mind starts to wander, just notice… you can say to yourself: ‘I'm thinking’ and come back to your breath.
You can say to yourself: ‘I'm breathing.’
Bringing your attention…letting your mind have its job. It likes to have a job. Its job right now is just to think, ‘I'm breathing.’ Just taking another few moments here. Hopefully you're in a place where you can stay here a little longer.
I just wanted to introduce that breathing practice to you, so that you have this really simple, really powerful tool that you can do anywhere, with your eyes closed or open.
You can do it while you're driving, obviously with your eyes open, ha. You can do it in the shower, you can do it while you're parenting, you can do it when you're riding on the subway, when you wake up in the morning you can sit quietly for 2, 3, or 5 minutes.
This is the invitation to come home, to connect to yourself so that you can show up as the best version of who you are in every moment.
And again with the gentle reminder that this is a practice.
There's no arriving and staying here. We all need practices and tools to stay connected and to reconnect when we get off track.
So I would love to know how this practice has been for you. Please send me a message/DM/comment below.
I look forward to being with you for more practices.
Again, my name is Kim Burris and you can find out more about me on my website: kimburris.com
I hope you have a wonderful day, and I will be with you guys again soon.
Alright. Take care. Bye bye.
